NATURE RESERVE

THE YUNGAS REGION

Located within the Yungas Biosphere Reserve, the Aldea Luna Nature Reserve is at an altitude of between 1400 and 1820 meters above sea level. It is a wooded area, populated by a wide variety of native flora and fauna.

It is an area completely free of pollution and electromagnetic waves. There is no cell phone signal, electricity or any kind of antennas from cell phone companies. It is dedicated to the dissemination, conservation and enrichment of the native forest of the Yungas, and to recreational and educational tourism on a small scale.

WATER

It is surrounded by the Tilquiza river and the Los Azahares stream, both of which flow all year round and have very important summer floods. The Preserve is also split in two by the Los Manzanos stream, which forms small rock canyons that are very interesting to visit for recreational purposes.

FLORA

The Preserve protects a portion of the Yungas corresponding to Selva Montana. It is populated by thick humid forests of walnut trees, cedars, tipas, laurel del cerro, alders, bushes, ceibos, myrtles, molles and cochuchos; and churquis, tuscas and coronillos in the driest parts.

FAUNA

It has a varied and vibrant population of mammals that inhabit its forests and rivers. Such as brown corzuelas, mountain foxes, red squirrels, greater and lesser ferrets, mayuatos, anteaters, skunks and several species of felines, of which the puma is the most prominent one.

BIRDS

Without a doubt, the most characteristic feature of the Reserve is its large population of birds: woodpeckers, toucans, hummingbirds, herons, jotes, caranchos, hawks, parrots and about 400 other species live in it.

CONSERVACIÓN

We carry the important task of disseminating and raising awareness on the importance of forest protection, with the education of the younger generations as our main objective. Volunteers are welcomed from all over the world throughout the year, and they colaborate with the maintenance and live an experience real, on site contact with nature.
